Recruit for Spouses

We were thrilled to see that the CEO Recruit for Spouses, Heledd Kendrick won the ‘Special’ Award at the Women in Defence Awards 2016.

Recruit for Spouses is founded and run by military spouses like the ones it serves and is an independent enterprise. Their aim is to assist Armed Forces spouses all over the UK into employment.

We have worked with Recruit for Spouses and we’re a great advocate for the support and expertise they offer, particularly in areas in which we know employment can be problematic.

We know from your feedback that spousal employment in some parts of Scotland is high on the agenda. Our Regional Liaison Officer for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Mark Harris (pictured above), recently organised for Recruit for Spouses to visit HNMB Clyde in Helensburgh, in order to identify what challenges military spouses in the area are facing when looking for employment.

Those who attended the event took up the opportunity to have a one to one chat with Sarah Stone and the CEO of Recruit for Spouses, Heledd Kendrick, about what they wanted from possible future employment. We had some great comments, for example one spouse said:

” I left feeling really empowered with a way ahead for pursing my own career, here in Scotland”.

Recruit for Spouses have continued their work in the community and have now gained the assistance of a local Naval Service spouse, Michelle Mortlock, to help seek opportunities in the area and better understand the needs of the Armed Forces community. They have also now opened their first office in Scotland. Based in Fife, the new office will connect spouses in and around the bases of Arbroath and Leuchars with jobs and employers in Dundee, St Andrews and further afield.

It is thanks to your feedback that has enabled us to identify needs within Royal Navy and Royal Marines communities across the UK that we are able to put you in touch with specialist organisations who can really make a difference.
