Red, White & Blue Day
Red, White & Blue Day is an annual fundraising campaign in aid of the three national service charities, where pupils come to school dressed in Red, White or Blue. This year it will be taking place on October 14th, but it’s not too late for your school to sign up and take part. Any day in October or November can be Red, White and Blue Day for your school.
This year the day will be marking the centenary of The Battle of the Somme, and schools have been asked nationwide to take part and raise vital funds to raise money to support the work of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
As well as getting pupils to wear Red, White or Blue for the Day, there are also specially created lesson plans that explore what life was like for the armed forces on the frontlines of the Somme; what they would have eaten; and how they were cared for when they got injured. There is even a special recipe for wartime biscuits, which were used as a way to pass messages between friends in the trenches.
In addition to the lesson plans, there are special competitions being held for pupils to take part in, including a fantastic photography competition which will be judged by Royal Photographer Arthur Edwards MBE. All details of these competitions and prizes can be found below.
