Wyndham Park Community Hub
Our Regional Liaison Officer for the South West and Wales, Pete Hawley, was delighted to attend the Wyndham Park Community Hub Open Day in Yeovil.
The event was organised by PO Gareth Stockley from the Royal Navy Royal Marines Welfare team.
It was great to see that a safe and appropriate community space to facilitate local community led activities, groups and meetings, has now been appropriated in order to promote a strong sense of resilience and resourcefulness within the Wyndham Park community. The Community Hub will be short term until the successful completion of a new school and integrated community centre (planned to be built in 5 years’ time).
The Community Hub will facilitate a range of services and activities. These will include: health visiting clinics, parenting groups, counselling services from Relate, job clubs, youth groups, parent and toddler groups, coffee mornings, groups for the elderly, resident group meetings, Somerset Skills and Learning cookery group, community garden projects, a buggy walking group, Yeovil One Police project, stay and play by Get Set, and more will be developed in 2017.
Although situated on the outskirts of Yeovil, Wyndham Park had few local facilities or easily accessible public transport. It is an area of mixed housing, including privately owned, SFA and social housing so the project is aiming to work with all the community on the estate and provide resources that are available, and accessible, to all.
