The Naval Families Federation (NFF) exists to give Royal Navy and Royal Marines families a strong, independent voice. We represent families lived realities to the Ministry of Defence, military welfare organisations, and other key stakeholders, ensuring that Naval families are heard, understood, and supported. As an independent charity, we provide guidance and support on issues affecting the everyday lives of Naval service families, helping them thrive wherever the Service takes them.

This is a voluntary role to join our Board of Trustees, who ensure all NFF activities are in line with the strategy and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board, supporting the NFF in championing individuals and the Royal Navy service.

Who should apply?

We welcome applications from non-serving members of Naval families who can bring:
• Authentic lived experience of Royal Navy or Royal Marines family life
• Credibility within the community
• A passion for advocating for Service families
• An interest in (or willingness to learn about) charity governance

You don’t need to be an expert in governance, we value experience, insight, and commitment above all.

What is the commitment?

• Four board meetings per year (January, April, July, October)
• Meetings are a mix of in person in Portsmouth and virtual via Teams
• Attendance in person for the July Strategy Day is required
• Reasonable expenses are paid
We recognise that family life can be unpredictable, and the charity supports trustees to balance Board duties around Naval family commitments.
